Funding for and against Proposition 8 in California, the amendment to ban same-sex marriage (9/5 numbers, in millions of dollars):
| For | Against | Total |
California | $8.8 | $5.3 | $14.1 |
Out-of-state | $4.0 | $5.0 | $9.0 |
Total | $12.0 | $10.2 | $22.2 |
In Arizona, amendment supporters have raised around $3 million. I can't find a comparable number for those working against their anti-same-sex marriage amendment, but the number from a month ago is $8,000. And that's not in millions.
These measures could use your help. If you want to help out, please visit California's, Arizona's, and Florida's amendment opposition sites.
These ballot initiatives are referendums not on the "definition of marriage," as they like to say, but on the value our society places on its gay and lesbian citizens. Please help us defeat them - we're being out-funded by the conservatives in their effort to stir up homophobia to win elections.
